Chapter 10


“Lacy you have a phone call”

“OK” she said very confused Lana was coming back today but she wouldn’t call she would be busy unpacking….

“Hello, this is Lacy.”

“Lac”

“Lana…what is it I am at work.”

“Did you meet someone in the four days that I’ve been gone.”

“What..where is that coming from…” Lacy was beyond confused now. She hadn’t told Lana about talking to Max but she didn’t need to she felt much better. She didn’t even fight with Lana when she said she wanted to go out when she got into town that night as a welcome to Pittsburgh party…

“Well I was here minding my own business when someone knocked on the door.”

“Ok…”

“and well I have been sitting here for the past twenty minutes watching them bring in bouquet after bouquet of flowers…someone bought you a flower shop….so spill it.”

“Lana I’m at work I have an early day today so I will be home a little after lunch.”

“Fine…but if I find the card I’m reading it”

Lacy hung up the only guy she had spoken to was….Max…and she gave him her address...who else would pull a stunt like this.

Max was sitting at the diner with Flower house with a shit eating grin on…he was going to get her back. He knew it…He was going to get Lacy back especially now since the cat was out of the bag about him still having feelings for her. Not to mention what she had told him about never getting over it…but what did that mean had she been hiding feelings while she dated other guys…surely she dated other guys..

“What did you do” Vero looked at him knowing something was.

“What…nothing…”

“I know you better than that Maxime”

“I didn’t do anything bad if that is what you mean” but he couldn’t stop grinning he couldn’t wait to see if she liked the flowers.

“Fine…for now…but I will find out.” Vero kissed Marc on the cheek and left to go to a charity meeting.

“Ok…Max spill it what did you do.”

“I sent flowers…”

“That’s it???” Marc knew that grin so the fact that it was just flowers didn’t quite make sense.

“Yea….that’s it”

Marc just nodded as they finished up their lunch…but he knew better.

Lacy got home around 3 and walked into a room full of flowers.

“See I told you…a flower shop.”

Lacy just stood there with her mouth hanging open. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

Lana pulled her from her thoughts… “So who sent them…a girl doesn’t send another girls flower unless….OH MY GOD YOU HAVEN’T ..”

“NO…was there a card??”

“Yup…” Lana held the card up…

“Can I have it???” Lacy wasn’t sure if she wanted Lana to know about Max.

Lana had a feeling that this was all Max because of the way Lacy reacted…so she gave up and gave Lacy the card. Lacy took the card and plopped down on the couch.

I am really sorry. Maybe we can start over? –Max- (412)888-9897

She couldn’t believe it…start over…start over

“Max”

Lacy looked up at Lana who was standing there and just nodded.

“Lacy really…how did he get your address?”

“I gave it to him.”

“YOU WHAT… AFTER EVERYTHING YOU TOLD ME..AFTEREVERYTHING HE DID”

“Please Lana I had to do it…I had to talk to him and get it all out. I did it to. When he left he said he was sorry…that has to be what these flowers are for.” Lacy forgot about the card just for a second. Lana would really flip if she knew what he said and the fact that she was seriously considering it. Damn Love sucked sometimes.

“Can we just get you settled and go enjoy our night out…please Lana.”

Lana saw the look in her eyes she knew that she still loved Max but she couldn’t stand to see her sister hurt anymore…he put her through so much. She had to get one last thing out.

“Lacy I’m going to be there for you no matter what you decided. I know you still love him. If the flowers were just a I’m sorry he wouldn’t have bought the whole damn place out…please just be careful.” Lana held her hand out so they could go do what they do just what Lacy had asked. Lana got her piece out.

Lacy just looked at her sister and smiled…she knew her sister was telling the truth when she said she would be there no matter what. They spent the next few hours unpacking and moving stuff around and just being together. Before Lacy knew it, it was time to head out to Diesel. Lacy was bound and determined to have good time tonight and try not to think about Max even though that card that was still in her purse…

“Out tonight boys” Jordan called around the locker room. He got a resounding yes from everyone but Max…he knew everyone would want to celebrate the season was going great so far granted it had just started but they had a great start..it sucked he couldn’t be out there but soon…

“Hey Talbo…you coming?” Jordan asked.

“Huh”

“Out diesel…”

“Ummm yea sure”

Marc looked at him and knew what was bothering Max…not only hockey but the talk they had earlier. Max again said he was serious about trying to get lacy back even told Marc how many flowers he sent which Marc couldn’t stop laughing at.

“Anything yet”

“No..I don’t know if she will even call me…Flower I really hurt her..all because I wanted to get laid.”

“You were 15 man everyone was doing it.”

“You weren’t”

“You don’t know that…I just already found the girl of my dreams…and I think you had to you just let pressure of being a big hockey star get to you like the other guys.”

“I don’t know man..maybe I should go see her again?”

“No come out with us…don’t push her Max. I’d say be yourself but….well be yourself to a certain extent she fell for it once didn’t she.”

“Yea she did…but I fell first..it just took another guy to pursue her for me to realize it..”

Lana and Lacy got into Diesel with no issues. Lacy wasn’t really sure how or why but she wasn’t going to complaining…she wanted to have a goodtime for Lana…for herself. They made their way to the bar to get some drinks when she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around to see Vero standing there.

“Hi”

“Hi thought you would like to come up to VIP with me and some of the girls. We are having a girls night”

“I don’t know…”

Lana heard this and perked up.

“Lacy….” Lana bumped her.

“Oh…Vero this is my twin sister Lana she decided to move down here to.”

They both exchanged greetings…but Vero continued.

“You both should come up it really is a lot of fun.”

“ummm” but Lana cut her off

“Sure…”

“Lana…but what…”

“I promise the boys shouldn’t be coming. They know we were having a girls night.” Vero said…little did she know that the boys had already made their way into the VIP.

Lacy finally agreed and followed Vero up the stairs to the VIP…she kept telling herself that tonight was all about having fun. They made it up there but Lacy ran right into Vero.

“Merde”

“What is it?” Both Lana and Lacy looked over her shoulders and saw the boys sitting there.

Vero turned around… “ I know you probably wont believe me because I keep saying this but I really didn’t think….”

“It’s ok…I’ll be ok” Lana and Vero both looked at Lacy

“Are you sure.”

“Yea I told myself I was going to have a good time tonight and I am going to. I just need a drink” and made her way over to the bar…

Vero on the other hand practically stormed over to the boys…specifically Marc.

“What the hell.”

“Hi…” Marc knew he was in deep especially when he saw that Vero had found Lacy but he honestly forgot this is where the girls were going after the game…

“I’m sorry”

“You should be…”

“Hey V what’s wrong…” Max walked up hoping to save his friend.

“YOU…ALL OF YOU” she went to walk away but all the girls had made their way over to the boys.

“Max…please don’t do anything stupid” Marc whispered to him when she sat down next to him.

“What the hell Flower?” Max was confused but followed his friends hand toward the group of girls and saw Lacy sitting there with everyone.

“Merde” He wanted to see her that wasn’t the issue but she looked….well not like she did when she was 15 and even then she was hot…but tonight she was that but more…she exuded sex.

Max wanted to go over there but every time he tried to get up he couldn’t move.

“What is up with you?” Jordan asked he noticed Max rocking back and forth

“Nothing…”

“Bullshit” Tanger had now noticed the way Max was acting but also looked toward Vero, and two other girls who he didn’t know… “Who are you looking at?”

“NO ONE” Max finally got the courage to walk over to her anything she had to say had to be better than getting ragged by them all night.

“Lacy” Max said kind of quietly but loud enough to get her attention and the others.

Lacy stopped everything and looked up. She saw Max. She knew that he was probably here but she hadn’t seen him yet which was a good thing for her because of the card that hadn’t left her side even though she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do…

“Max”

“Can we maybe….ummmm….talk”

“Go ahead Maxime I’m sure we would all love to hear what you have to say..” Lana cut in. She couldn’t help it she was protective her brothers made her promise especially after she told them everything.

Lacy shot a look at Lana…and then back at Max…

“I was hoping we could go somewhere else…alone???”

“Like…”

“Lana stop it….sure we can go talk somewhere.”

Max was thankful for Lacy…she was never this straight forward before but he sure as hell liked it…it was new and awaking feelings inside of him that he thought were very well hidden. They made their way over to a corner of the room. Neither of them really knew what to say at first but Max knew he had to come up with something…

“ I really am sorry”

“So you’ve said”

“I was away from home for the first time and all the guys had girls throwing themselves at them…and”

“You wanted something that I wasn’t giving you” Lacy said she didn’t mean to sound so bitchy but she couldn’t help it because she knew what she what she was planning on doing that night if he had shown up and she was going to tell him.

Max didn’t want to admit it but he knew that there was no dodging it… “yea I guess that was part of it” but he didn’t let her finish.

“I liked the attention I was getting…I couldn’t help it..I was 15”

“So you keep saying…you must of liked it because you kept going that way…random hookups…random girls.”

He knew he deserved everything he was getting but it still hurt.

“I made a mistake….Lacy people do that…” he was getting mad now but what he heard next he didn’t expect.

“I’m sorry…I really am. You hurt me more than you could ever imagine.” She wanted to stop but if she did she would never get this out…she wanted him to know…especially since she was seriously considering this whole starting over thing.

“… I convinced my brother to bring me up there so I could see you because we said we loved each other and I know we did but I felt like I was losing the Max that I loved. When you told me that you would see me later on I even convinced my brother to leave the hotel for awhile…I was ready Max…I was ready and willing to give you everything if that meant we would be ok…”

Max felt his mouth drop open…he really blew it. “Lacy…”

“Don’t…I’m not done. Look I meant what I said I never got over it..I never got over you. I was inconsolable. That was why I made sure I was never around when you came home I didn’t want to see you…I couldn’t see you Max…I was so in love with you…GOD I STILL AM…” with that Lacy got up and started to walk out.

He couldn’t believe it…He felt like an asshole just reading the letter and he felt even worse now. He got up to follow her. Lana was staring at him like she was going to kill him and got up after him…

“Max….”

He turned around he knew it was Lana he saw her staring at them the whole time. “What.”

“Don’t you dare hurt her…again…”

“NOT NOW LANA….” He didn’t wait to see if she had anything else to say he wanted to find Lacy. He made his way out the bar and saw Lacy making her way down the street.

“LAC…”

“Don’t Max I’ve already made a fool of myself…”

“Lacy…” He stopped her and turned her around to look at her and she had tears running down her face.

“Please don’t cry”

“I cant help it…Max all this time and I’m still in….” but Max put his finger up to her mouth.

“Shhh” He whispered as he lowered his head. He lightly kissed her cheek to stop another tear that had fallen from her eye and did the same to the other. He then pulled back just enough to look into her eyes and then lowered his head down and put his lips to hers and kissed her.

Chapter 11

Lacy’s POV

I couldn’t believe what I just did… just spilled everything to him…He couldn’t even say anything. Now he was standing in front of me. I felt him lean down and kiss my cheek, and then the other one. He pulled up just enough so I could see his eyes….GOD THOSE EYES…always my favorite. Before I could even register what was happening I felt his lips touch mine. He was kissing me I couldn’t believe it I have waited to feel his lips on mine again for so long…it felt so amazing.

OH MY GOD IM NOT MOVING….IM NOT KISSING HIM BACK. I tried to will my lips to move but I know I wasn’t moving…god why can’t I kiss him back. I want to kiss him back…

“Lacy.”

“Huh”

I looked up to see Max standing there with his hands on either side of my head. What am I supposed to say…I don’t know if I can say anything.

“Lac”

“What”

“Are you ok”

“Ummm yea…Fine”

“Are you sure”

“Yea…can you do that again”

That smile…That laugh….but he listened…I felt his lips lightly touch mine again but this time I was able to kiss back and I can’t even begin to describe how it feels. I don’t want to ever stop. If only I could breathe through my nose all the time.

My brain is officially mush!!!

Max’s POV

I know I probably shouldn’t have kissed her but after I kissed her cheeks and I looked into her eyes and she was just looking right back into mine. I couldn’t help myself so I leaned down and gently put my lips to her.

It was almost like our first kiss. I was scared then and I’m scared now…I don’t know if I am doing the right thing but those feelings they are back and a little bit more I can feel my body responding more than it should for a simple kiss. So I pulled away.

“Lacy.”

“Huh”

She had that look again…why she always gets that look. But this time her eyes had more than a surprised look again. She was thinking…

“Lac”

“What”

“Are you ok”

“Ummm yea…Fine”

“Are you sure”

“Yea…can you do that again”

I couldn’t help but smile and laugh a little that is the same thing that she said when I kissed for the first time so long ago..Just like last time I listened to her and gently put my lips to hers. Her lips are so soft. I have a feeling I am going to be taking a cold shower tonight, something that I did a lot back then to when she said she wasn’t ready. I don’t want to push too much. But it was hard because unlike the first time I kissed her tonight she kissed me back this time. I was going crazy…My body kept responding but I couldn’t blow this.

I pulled away again and looked into her eyes. Then I think I saw the best thing ever a smile slowly appeared on her face. I thought it couldn’t get it any better but it did.

“So were you serious about starting over”

It was the first time that she had even mentioned the flowers or the card for that matter but it was a reaction that I loved. This was easier than I thought. I have to thank Vero for finding her downstairs.

“Yes”

Lana came out of the club just in time to see Max lean in and kiss her sister for the second time. She didn’t want to believe it but she knew her sister still loved him. She wanted to be mad but even she had to admit that what she was seeing wasn’t cute …she would be the last person to admit it but she was a romantic at heart. She didn’t want to interrupt the moment but she was ready to go home she wanted details.

She cleared her throat both Lacy and Max turned around. “I hate to interrupt but I’m ready to go.”

“Ok Lan” Lacy looked at Max she really didn’t know what to say she wanted to kiss him again but her brain was actually starting to function again and she didn’t know. But Max stepped in and she was grateful.

“You still have the card”

“Yea”

“Give me a call” with that he leaned down and kissed her cheek. He was so happy he barely could contain himself.

He watched both girls toward a cab that Lana had gotten while he was telling her goodnight. After he knew they had gotten in the cab safely he made his way back into the bar to catch up with the boys.

Monday rolled around and Lacy still hadn’t called Max. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to she just didn’t know what to say. That wasn’t something that they ever had a problem with was talking. Why now…when she wanted to talk to him. She had so many things running through her mind. She wasn’t regretting letting Max kiss her ..hell she wanted to be permanently attached to his lips but that wasn’t an option.

When Lacy got back from lunch that day there was a small envelope sitting at her station.

Hi, I haven’t heard from you and I’m going a little crazy here…come see me tonight 7pm. -Max-

Lacy couldn’t help but smile…he could never wait. He even took the time to put directions down on the bottom. She sent him a text really quickly before her afternoon patients saying that she would be there and then went back to work.

Max was sitting around the house just trying to relax. It had been a really busy morning. He knew from Vero that she worked on the Southside at a pediatric office but not which one. So he went to every office he could find on the Southside asking if a nurse named Lacy worked there. The last one he finally had success. So he left the note hoping it was the right Lacy. That was the last thing he needed. He wasn’t as popular as Sid or Geno but he did in fact have girls throwing themselves at him just because he played hockey…he couldn’t mess up again.

Just as he was dosing off his phone beeped.

I’ll be there.

He couldn’t wipe the smile off of his face…until he looked around. His condo was a complete mess and he couldn’t cook to save his life…He needed help and he needed it fast.

“Hello”

“V, I need help”

“And”

“V please I am being serious here…Lacy agreed to come over tonight my place is a mess and I can’t cook…help”

He was panicking and Vero thought it was kind of funny but cute at the same time. She and Marc got into a little argument over him helping Max. She hoped that he was changing but she wasn’t sure…

“Max…”

“V please….” He was ready to beg…

“Fine Marc and I will be over shortly.”

He started pacing as soon as he got off the phone. He was suddenly nervous. Lacy was coming over tonight. What was going to happen…he had no clue he knew how his body was reacting with a simple kiss and on top of that he let his mind wander to what she had said about the night he left the note for her at the hotel. She was ready to give him everything. Was she going to be ready tonight? Whoa buddy don’t get too far ahead of yourself…but he ran down to his room and ripped the sheets off of his bed anyway…wash them just in case. He then ran down to the corner store and bought some condoms just in case. He wasn’t sure what was going to happen but he wanted to be ready.

When he got back up to the door Vero and Marc were waiting there.

“Where did you go.”

“I just needed to pick up some things.”

Vero just looked at him. But made her way into the condo to start helping him.

“What did you buy.”

“Nothing”

But Marc saw inside the bag…. “REALLY MAX”

“What always be prepared. Better safe than sorry” Max felt stupid but he wanted to be ready for everything tonight.

The afternoon went by really fast and before he knew it…it was just about 7 and Lacy should be here soon. God he really thought he was going to throw up.

Chapter 12

Lacy smoothed her dress down one last time before she rang the doorbell. To say she was nervous was an understatement. She was terrified to knock on the door but did anyway. Before she even had time to put her hand down at her side Max had the door open with his mouth hanging open.

“Hi”

He closed his mouth but he couldn’t form any words she looks so beautiful. He never really had to chance to see her dressed up other than church because her parents never let her do anything he cursed himself for thinking of the past while she was just standing there…

Finally he opened his mouth hoping that the words his brain was saying would come out and not other parts of his body.

“Hi, you look…beautiful Lacy”

“Thanks. Lana picked it out”

“Ha I figured she hates me.”

“O she does…”

Max wanted to laugh but he didn’t think it was funny if her sister hated her what did her brothers think.

“Here come sit and I’ll go get some wine.”

Max went into the kitchen to get the wine but dropped the glass…

“Damn…ok Max calm down its not like you never had a girl over before”

Lacy heard him curse and got up to see if he needed help and walked in on his little pep talk.

“Really so this is routine for you” She spit out before she could stop herself. Even though she knew that he didn’t shut himself off from the female world like she did with guys but it still hurt.

“Huh” Max spun around and cursed himself again. He had pictured this going a lot different then it was going. He was blowing it.

“Ummmm….sorry I’m just really nervous” He told the truth hopefully that would be good enough.

Lacy just sighed she told herself that starting over meant not holding anything against him but it was really hard not to. “I’m sorry Max I shouldn’t have said that the past is the past right?”

“Yea. I know I hurt you Lacy…I want to make that up to you…I am going to try my hardest to do that.”

Lacy just smile she really believed him..she didn’t know why but she couldn’t help it she loved him always have. She walked up and wrapped her arms around him and gently put her lips up to his. She had wanted to kiss him since she got her so she went with impulse and did it. She knew she surprised him because it took him a minute to respond.

God her lips were perfect. He always like kissing Lacy always but it always had stopped there. He didn’t want to stop now and slowly ran his tongue along her lip hoping she would let it deepen a little bit. He really tried not to be surprised when he felt her lips part just enough so he could slip his tongue into her mouth. He pulled her closer to him til he couldn’t any closer to her well with clothes on anyway. She kissed her until he had to pull away to breathe.

Lacy didn’t know what had come over her but she loved this new Lacy. She knew she loved Max because she never stopped and having his lips on her felt like heaven to her. She never wanted it to end and her tongue started to move with his to show him that since she couldn’t talk…even if she could she probably wouldn’t be able to form a complete thought right now.

“Why” was all she could say when he pulled away. Max just chucked and kissed her cheek.

“We should eat” and pulled his arms away from her even though he would be happy to just hold her like that for as long as she would let him. He went over to the over and pulled out the food that Vero had helped him make and served the dish on to plates while Lacy poured the wine. They sat down to eat but didn’t really talk much but really just enjoyed being around each other again. They had talked a lot the past few times now they just wanted to be around each other. After Max cleared the table he led Lacy back out to the living room in front of the big windows that had a view out to the city.

“I hope you are having a good time. I know I said earlier that it wasn’t the first I had a girl over but I’ve never had one over for dinner”

Lacy didn’t want to smile at that because he just admitted he had girls over for other reasons but she couldn’t help it. He was trying to be sweet in his own way just like always. She didn’t know what to say so she just put her head on his shoulder and continued to look out of the window. They sat there for what seemed like forever Lacy knew she should go soon because she had to work tomorrow but she didn’t want to go. She felt like they had so much time to make up for.

Lacy picked her head up and looked up and saw that Max was just sitting there she lightly kissed his cheek to get his attention. He looked down at her and just smiled and leaned in to give her a proper kiss. He didn’t wait long for to try and get the kiss to deepen and he was happy when she let him with no surprise on either side. What he really wanted to do way lay her down on the couch but knew that probably wasn’t a great idea he would have to be happy to just kiss her for now…they made cold showers for a reason.

“I should go”

“Do you have to?”

“Yea I have to work tomorrow”

“Let me take you out to lunch”

“Ok”

She would give him just about anything right now. She got up to head to the door and he followed with her. When they got to the door Max leaned down lightly kissed her he wasn’t going to try anything this time.

As Lacy made her way out the door Max stopped her.

“Lacy…do you think…that ….ummm…maybe.” He couldn’t believe she could still make him feel this nervous still..

“…well do you think we could …ummm….be an official….”

Lacy just smiled and kissed him….she hoped that this would be enough of an answer for him but knowing Max it wouldn’t

“Goodnight Max”

“Lacy…you didn’t say anything…”

“Think about it Max” She kissed him one more time but deepened it just enough to get her message across.
