Chapter 5


Sure enough Lacy was awoken to pounding on her door. Lacy immediately recognized her sisters voice and went to get up but realized she fell asleep with all the pictures she had been going through the night before after the party

“LACY OPEN UP”

“COMING” she hurried to put all the pictures and things back in the box.

As soon as she opened the door she was pulled into hug by her sister. She was glad Lana was here but at the same time was hoping that she wasn’t. Lana knew some of the story but not everything. Lacy had been very good at putting up a front to her family…she had to be.

“I’ll get a tour later..are you ok”

“I don’t know…I didn’t think I would ever have to see him again…I was so careful about this at home and the first time I go somewhere…”

“Well what happened and I mean everything”

Lacy plopped down on the couch and relived yesterday and how she ended up there. Lana on the other hand just sat there at listened well until she found the box sitting next to the coffee table.

“What is this” and walked over to the box to start looking through it.

“Lana”

“YOU SAVED EVERYTHING…”

“Yes I did it’s a huge part of my life.”

“OK yes I get that I saved some stuff too…but I burned everything else.”

Lacy couldn’t help but laugh a little because that was so like her sister…then she saw her sisters face and the fireplace that was in the apartment.

“LANA NO”

“COME ONE LAC IT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER”

“BECAUSE I SAID NO DMANIT” she didn’t mean to snap but there were so many emotions going on right now she couldn’t help it and stormed away to the bedroom.

Lana knew that Lacy needed some time to cool off before they talked again. Lana tried to sit there and wait it out but curiosity got the best of her and she made her way over to the box. She knew that Lacy had never been serious about anyone since Max and didn’t ever bring anyone home to meet mom and dad but surely she had pictures of these guys. Unfortunately for Lana…

After a while Lana realized that Lacy wasn’t going to come back out so she went to find her.

“Lac…”

Lacy was just laying there staring at the wall. If she knew her sister and she did…she knew that Lana had looked through that box because she was curious and she knew that she couldn’t get away with the front anymore..she was going to have answer questions about her so called boyfriends.

Max’s POV

I couldn’t get her off of my mind. She looked scared to death to see me. I don’t get…. I was pulled out of my thoughts with sharp pain in my shoulder.

“FUCK…Hello Surgery right here not to long ago..” I said rubbing my arm waiting for the throbbing to go away.

“Sorry man you looked lost” Tanger said as he pushed me up the counter so I could order coffee.

I couldn’t really practice yet so whenever I could hang out with the guys that was what I did…

We were sitting there I don’t really know what they were talking about I had let my mind drift back to Lacy and the way she looked yesterday. Just then I looked up and I swear I saw her. She walked up to the counter and I made a move to get up..the guys knew better to stop me…of course they thought I was just picking up another girl…it is what I did…anywhere anyplace

I finally got around all the other tables and caught up with her when she was putting all the extra stuff in her bag after she got her order.

“Lacy” Please don’t freak on me this time…I just want to talk…I stood there and waited

She turned around and she had fire in her eyes

“NO YOU ASSHOLE… LANA….HER TWIN”

Twin…FUCK I forgot she had twin. It was then that I felt really hot liquid dripping down my face and shirt..OH

“MERDE…That is HOT”

“GOOD YOU DESERVE IT…STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM HER” and with that I watched her walk out.

I turned around soaked and saw the whole place looking me all shocked…well except for the guys they were just laughing hysterically… I just shook my head and headed out to the car to go home and change.

Lacy’s POV

I hadn’t moved from my spot. I was still laying on my bed. Lana on the other hand got up and left after I told her everything…How there had been no other boys I made it all up…I still remember the way her face looked when I told her and she couldn’t say anything so she just left. I don’t know where she is or where she went…she probably is on the phone with my brothers right now…they already hated Max for making me cry when I was 15 but now god there was probably going to be a hit out on him. I was the baby.

“LACY GET OUT HERE”

OH GOD HERE WE GO.

“What Lana”

“ I saw him”

“Who.”

“HIM”

“Oh my god…” I fell on to the couch..I’m never going to get away and its not like I can go home.

“YEA I LET HIM HAVE IT TO…..AND THEN..I THREW COFFEE ON HIM”

I couldn’t say anything I couldn’t even smile or laugh…like part of me wanted me to

Finally “You threw coffee on him”

“YEA HE DESERVED IT…GOD AFTER EVERYTHING YOU TOLD ME I JUST COULDN’T HELP IT.”

God I love my sister but how do I tell her that I never stopped loving Max Talbot.

Chapter 6

Monday came around and Lana decided to stay in town and look at the University to see if she could transfer and Lacy went back to work.

Lacy hadn’t even had a chance to put her stuff down when Erin was all over her.

“How was the party…”

“I don’t want to talk about it. “

“O come on it is not every day that a girl gets to see the Pittsburgh Penguins and spend time with them”

“I said I don’t want to talk about it.” That was the gods honest truth to she wanted to forget everything that happened over the weekend. She thought she had worse days before Friday but that topped it. But she couldn’t help but wonder if he got burnt by Lana’s coffee she really hoped not…she didn’t want to hurt him she never wanted him to hurt like she did.

Max on the other hand was the big laugh of Monday in the locker room.

“Hey Talbo forgot you already had her” Brooks said as he made his way to his stall. Max starting cursing under his breath trying to remind himself why he came to watch practice today.

“Shut the fuck up. It thought it was someone else.”

“That was the second time that he scared a girl away within 24 hours of each other.” Jordan couldn’t help but laugh as he changed.

“DROP IT OK” and Max made his way out the locker room to go sit and get ready to be an observer. He still couldn’t figure out what he did that was so bad. While he was waiting he decided that he would call his mother and see what he could find out.

“Hello”

“Hi Mom”

“Maxime what’s wrong it isn’t your arm is it?”

“No the arm is fine.”

“Well then what is it”

“Have you heard anything about Lacy lately.”

“What brought this on Maxime. You haven’t asked or talked about Lacy in awhile.”

“Mom I really don’t feel like explaining it right now.” Max started to rub at his temple trying to figure everything out was starting to make his head hurt”

“Fine…but I don’t like this Maxime”

“Mom please…”

“Well I ran into her brother the other day and we got caught up. He was saying how she lost her job at the hospital in Montreal but she was able to get a new nursing job at Dr. Office.”

“Where”

“Somewhere in the states he wouldn’t say…why” she was very curious what had brought this on.

“I think she is in Pittsburgh”

“O” that was all she could say. She knew that they had broken up while he was playing in juniors but never really knew what the details. The only thing she did know was that Lacy wasn’t the same girl.

“Thanks Mom…I love you”

“Don’t do anything stupid Maxime.”

“I’ll try…” but it may be a little too late for that he thought as he remembered yesterday and Lana’s coffee.

Lacy had made it through most of her day…and couldn’t wait to get home and sleep. This past weekend was so draining she just wanted to get through the day and pass out…stop thinking for a bit.

She thought she had done it until she looked at her last chart for the day….Alexa Lemieux. But she made her way to the waiting room anyway just hoping that everything went smoothly.

Once she got Alexa in the room she did the routine blood pressure check and her temperature and so on but didn’t say anything.

“Ok , Alexa Dr. Smithe will be in just a little bit” then quietly exited the room. Just when she thought she was done. She felt a tap on her shoulder.

“Hi”

She was stuck…she knew it was Nathalie

“Hi, I ‘m sorry I never got a chance to say goodbye.”

“O you have nothing to be sorry for. Alexa gave me your message…but she said that you looked upset. I just wanted to make sure that no one made you feel uncomfortable.”

Lacy closed her eyes she really couldn’t share it again and she barely knew Nathalie but she felt like she owed some kind of explanation.

“No…I um…just saw someone that I knew from home and I didn’t think I would see him again.”

Nathalie nodded but could tell that something was up… “ok, if you need anything or someone to talk to you can call me.”

Lacy couldn’t help but smile…

“O and by the way some of the girls wanted to know if you would like to get together but I didn’t have a number to give them”

“Ummm ok” Lacy was unsure but if it was the girls maybe she wouldn’t see Max…right??? And she gave Nathalie her number…a girl could always use new friends.

Chapter 7

Lacy was taking Lana to the airport even though she was coming back in a few days. Lana decided that she was going to transfer to Pitt partly because she liked the city but she really wanted to be close to Lacy…especially with everything she learned on her trip.

“So you’ll be back on Friday”

“Yup I just gotta pack up my clothes and bedroom stuff…you know make use of that empty bedroom you have.”

“Yea I know…I’m glad your coming back Lana…I mean you’re the only one” but Lacy had to stop talking because she felt the tears coming.

“Oh Lacy…It is going to be ok…don’t worry…promise” Lana said as she started crying.

“If you say so…I wish I had your strength”

“You do…were twins…but do me one thing.”

“What…” Lacy wasn’t sure what Lana wanted but she wasn’t sure if she wanted to

“When that girl calls…go with it…we need some friends.”

“But that could mean”

“Don’t think about the what ifs….anyways do you really think that Max is going to bother you.”

Lacy just looked Lana…she obviously didn’t know Max well at least not like she had. But agreed anyway. When she got home sure enough there was a message on her machine.

“Hello…Lacy this is Vero. I briefly met you at the party last week. A bunch of the girls are meeting for dinner and drinks…We would love to see you there. We are meeting at La Romas its’ a new Italian place on the Southside. We are gonna meet around 7…hope to see you then”

Lacy seriously thought about ignoring it but remember Lana….damn

“Well here goes nothing” and then turned around and went out the door it was quarter til so she wanted to get there early so they could find her….hopefully.

It seemed like she had been sitting there forever but really it had only been maybe 5 minutes when she looked and saw a gorgeous group of girls walking into the restaurant. Lacy looked at her own outfit…she wasn’t dressed down but she certainly thought she didn’t look as good as the girls walking her way.

“What the hell have I gotten myself into…” she said to herself as she saw who she remembered as Vero walking towards her.

“Lacy”

“That’s me” and then she held out her hand.

“It is really great to see you again. I’m sorry that we didn’t get to talk much at the party.”

“Ummm yea…I had to leave early.” Lacy didn’t really want to into everything especially with the other girls walking up…

“Well we have now…let me introduce you to the other girls”

“Ok.”

She was introduced to Kelsey who was dating Tyler Kennedy, and Erin who was dating Brooks, Lindsey who had just started dating Sidney, and a couple of other girls. Just when Lacy was introduced to the other girls one last one walked in dressed to nines with a fake tan and fake blond hair…

“Hi sorry I’m late.” Her voice cut through Lacy and she had to try not to cringe. She saw Vero kind of roll her eyes but turned around to say hello.

“Hi Katie”

“Hi girls” Lacy really wanted her to stop talking and just get dinner going…she found herself really wanting to know the rest of the girls.

“Lacy, this is Katie she is dating Max…did you get to meet him”

Lacy had to fight not to let her mouth drop open and tears that she knew were threatening to fall…

“Ummm not really…” and put her head down to try and stop the tear that had fallen.

Vero couldn’t help but notice a reaction but when Lacy decided to hide she figured she wouldn’t mention it….for now…

Katie kind of acknowledged Lacy but quickly made her way to the table with the other girls following behind…Lacy even further behind.

“He has a girlfriend…..” and quietly made her way to the table.
